Uniform Fabric Pricing Explained
What actually drives the price of uniform fabric: raw material and yarn, dyeing and finishing, weave complexity, order size, and freight, so you know what a quotation is really paying for.

Quick answer
Uniform fabric price is built from five layers: the raw material and yarn, the dyeing and finishing process, how complex the weave or construction is, how much you order (ready stock versus a custom shade or construction), and the freight to get it to you. These layers do not move independently, a small custom order in a complex weave costs more per metre than a large ready-stock order in a plain weave, because the same batch costs are spread across fewer metres. Once you know what each layer covers, it becomes much easier to see why two quotes for what looks like the same fabric can differ.
What actually makes up a fabric price
A fabric price is not pulled from a single rate card. It is stacked from distinct cost layers, each driven by different things and each able to move on its own.

Raw material and yarn cost
Yarn is usually the largest single input into a fabric's cost, and it tracks two things: the fibre blend and the yarn count. Poly-viscose, all-cotton and poly-cotton yarns each sit on different raw material markets, so a shift in fibre prices moves the cost of everything spun from that blend. Within a poly-viscose blend, the ratio itself matters too, a higher viscose share generally costs more to spin than one weighted towards polyester.
Yarn count, how fine or coarse the yarn is, works the other way from what buyers sometimes expect. A finer count uses less material by weight but takes more spinning and more ends to build the same width, so a very fine count can cost more per metre of finished cloth than a coarser count at a similar weight, not less.
Dyeing and finishing cost
Dyeing, fabric processing and finishing add a separate cost layer on top of the yarn. We route this through trusted processing partners in the region rather than doing it in-house, and a few things push it up or down: how deep or unusual a shade is, how tightly it has to match an existing standard on a reorder, and what finishing the fabric needs beyond a basic wash and set.
Batch size matters here more than almost anywhere else in the process. A dye lot is mixed and matched as one unit whether it is a small trial length or a large program order, so the cost of matching and fixing that shade is spread over however many metres are in the batch. That is the single biggest reason a small custom order costs more per metre than a large one in the exact same shade.
Weave and construction complexity
How the fabric is built on the loom is its own driver. A plain weave runs faster and needs less loom setup than a dobby or check construction, where the loom has to be set for a pattern and typically runs slower to hold it accurately. Weaving happens in-house at our own unit in Village Atoon, Bhilwara, on 24 looms, 16 double-width Sulzer machines and 8 single-width, and construction complexity is one of the clearest levers on how long a given metreage occupies a loom.
Width plays into this too: double-width weaving covers more fabric per pick of the loom, which is generally more efficient per metre than single-width weaving of the same construction.
Order size: ready stock versus custom
Order size interacts with every layer above it. Ready stock is fabric already woven, dyed and finished in a running shade, so buying from stock skips the batch cost of a fresh dye lot and a dedicated loom setup entirely, which is why our minimum from ready stock is just 50 m per shade. A custom shade or construction is made to order, carrying the full batch cost of dyeing, weaving and finishing spread across whatever quantity is ordered, which is why the minimum for a custom shade or construction is 500 m per shade, enough to make that batch cost reasonable per metre.
Within the custom tier, price per metre generally improves as order size grows, because the fixed cost of matching a shade and setting up a loom is shared across more cloth. This is the main reason two buyers asking for the exact same shade and construction can end up with different quotes: order size, not just specification, changes the number.
Freight and logistics
Freight is the layer most disconnected from the fabric itself. Domestic dispatch within India and export shipping to another country carry very different costs, and within export, the mode of freight and the destination port each move the number independently of anything happening at the mill.
Freight also does not scale evenly with order size the way mill costs do. A trial length and a full program order shipped together can share a consignment, which is one reason it is worth timing purchases rather than placing isolated small orders back to back.
Getting a fair price without cutting quality
None of these layers are hidden, and a supplier should be able to walk you through them rather than just handing over a total. When one quotation looks higher or lower than another for what looks like the same fabric, the fastest way to find out why is to ask which layer differs, the blend, the shade, the construction, the order size or the freight terms.
