HS heading
5515.11
Woven fabric of polyester staple fibers, mixed mainly or solely with viscose staple fibers
- Polyester and viscose together are 100%, more than any other fiber, so the fabric falls with man-made fibers.
- It is woven from spun (staple) yarn, so Chapter 55.
- Polyester is under 85% and mixed mainly with viscose, the classic poly-viscose (PV) suiting.
What this finder does and does not do
It covers woven fabric of polyester, viscose, cotton and wool, the fibers uniform suiting and shirting are built from. Classification follows fiber, yarn and weight, never the garment the cloth will become: the same suiting carries the same heading whether it is cut into school trousers or hotel uniforms.
It stops at the heading on purpose. The digits after it turn on finish and weave, and each country adds its own national digits, so the full code on an invoice or shipping bill should come from your customs broker. Fabrics with elastane or nylon, and fabrics mixing spun and filament yarn, need a broker from the start.
Questions
- What is the HS code for poly-viscose fabric?
- Woven poly-viscose where polyester is the larger share sits at subheading 5515.11: woven fabric of polyester staple fibers mixed mainly or solely with viscose staple fibers. If viscose is the larger share, the fabric moves to heading 5516.
- What is the HS code for polyester-cotton fabric?
- If polyester is the larger share but under 85%, it is 5513 at up to 170 g/m² and 5514 above that. If cotton is the larger share, it moves to Chapter 52: 5210 at up to 200 g/m² and 5211 above, provided it is mixed mainly with man-made fibers.
- How is a blended fabric classified?
- As if it were made wholly of the fiber that is the largest share by weight. Polyester and viscose count together against cotton or wool when choosing the chapter. When two shares are exactly equal, the heading that comes last in numerical order applies.
- Is this the full code for my shipping bill?
- No. This finds the internationally common heading. The full national code runs to eight digits and depends on whether the cloth is bleached, dyed, yarn dyed or printed, and on the weave. Confirm it with your customs broker before filing.
- Does anything change for Indian fabric exports from November 2026?
- Yes. Under CBIC Circular 42/2026-Customs, from 1 November 2026 listed woven fabric lines in Chapters 52, 55 and 60, including heading 5515, must be declared on the shipping bill as flame retardant (FR001) or other than flame retardant (FR009). It adds no duty.
