Twill Suiting for Uniforms

Twill is woven on a diagonal rib that gives the cloth its characteristic durability and drape. The construction packs more yarn into the weave, so twill resists abrasion better than a plain weave and hides the marks of daily wear, which is why it is the default for trousers and workwear.

The diagonal construction is also why twill hides wear that would show plainly on a flat cloth. Scuffs, seat shine and the everyday abrasion of a working shift sit inside the rib rather than on an even surface, so a twill trouser looks presentable deeper into its service life. Our twills sit mostly in the 215 to 250 GSM band on a 150 cm width, the range where a trouser holds its line without becoming heavy for year-round wear.

When specifying a twill program, match the weight to what actually ends the garment's life. If garments come back torn or worn through at knees and seat, specify the heavier, higher-tensile end of the range; if they come back looking tired but intact, weight matters less than finish. Service shades in khaki, navy and olive are held in stock for force and security programs, so small top-up orders repeat the same shade as the original rollout.
