What hospital buyers need from uniform fabric

Healthcare garments are laundered hard and often, and they are worn through long shifts in warm wards. Buyers usually report three problems: colours that fade so departments stop being recognisable, cloth that feels heavy by the end of a shift, and linen that wears thin under institutional washing.

Colour coding matters as much as comfort. Many hospitals assign a shade per department or role, so a red or royal blue that drifts between batches defeats the purpose. Choose a breathable weight for scrubs and tunics, a fade-resistant cloth where colour coding is strict, and a separate quality for bed linen.

Weight also follows the ward. Theatre and emergency staff move constantly and sweat through long shifts, so a lighter plain weave or poly-cotton is usually kinder than a heavy suiting. Administrative and consultant roles that face patients and families can carry a slightly heavier, more tailored cloth. Linen is a separate decision from garments: sheets need a stable weight and a pattern that is easy to sort in the laundry.

Send the list of roles, the colour each department wears and approximate headcount, plus bed counts if linen is part of the order. We send swatches for each role before bulk weaving.

Stock shades ship from 50 m per shade. Custom shades and constructions are woven to order from 500 m per shade after lab dip approval, and the approved lot is held on file so later top-ups are matched to it.
