Scrubs That Survive Daily Hot-Wash Cycles for a Multi-Site Hospital Group

A hospital group's scrubs were pilling and greying within months under commercial hot-wash laundering, forcing early replacement across every site.

Scale

Multi-site hospital group, high-frequency institutional laundering

The challenge

Scrub fabric from a previous supplier was pilling and losing its white within four to six months of daily 90°C commercial laundering, well short of the group's annual replacement budget.

Our approach

  • We reviewed their laundry's wash temperature and detergent cycle and recommended a poly-cotton blend with a higher pill-resistance rating for that specific wash profile.
  • Sample batches were run through the hospital's own commercial laundry for 30 wash cycles before bulk approval, rather than relying on lab-only durability claims.
  • Bulk supply was scheduled in phases across the group's sites so each site's existing stock could be rotated out rather than replaced all at once.

Outcome

The group extended scrub replacement cycles from under six months to over a year at the same wash frequency, cutting per-site replacement spend.
