This is woven fabric, not stretch knitwear, so the comfort comes from a light, open plain weave rather than elastic give. For the coolest handle, Nano at 180 to 200 GSM is our lightest option, while Sonata at 190 to 210 GSM adds a touch more body without losing breathability.

House colours that stay fast

House colours are usually bright reds, greens, blues and yellows, and they are washed far more often than a classroom uniform because PT kit picks up grass stains, mud and sweat every week. A shade that fades or dulls after a few terms of hot washing quickly stops matching the rest of the house set.

Colourfastness starts with a consistent dye lot and a stable base cloth. Ordering a house colour as one dye lot rather than topping up in small batches over time keeps the shade even across a full sports-day cohort, and a plain poly-viscose construction such as Sonata or Benzer Special takes a bright shade evenly and holds it through repeated washing.

Playground tough

Sport, play and gravel are harder on fabric than a classroom desk ever is. Sliding tackles, playground surfaces and rough seating all concentrate wear at the knees, seat and hems, so the weave needs to resist abrasion rather than just look good on day one.

A tighter, slightly heavier construction wears harder at these points. Benzer Special at 200 to 220 GSM gives PT trousers and tracksuit bottoms more resistance to gravel and rough play, while still staying well inside the lightweight range compared with a classroom or outerwear fabric.

• Favour a plain, tightly woven cloth over a loose one for knee and seat durability.
• Match weight to the sport: lighter for running and general PT, a touch heavier for programs with more contact or ground contact.

All three are plain poly-viscose weaves at 150 cm width, so a school can mix them across trousers, shorts and tracksuit tops without introducing a different handle or finish into the same programme.

Washing and care through the term

Twice-weekly washing across a school term adds up fast, so easy-care behaviour matters as much as the first-day look. A poly-viscose blend dries quickly and needs little pressing, which suits both a home wash and a busy school laundry.

Washing hot removes grass and mud stains more reliably, and a stable, well-woven base cloth holds its shade and shape through that repeated hot washing far better than a lighter, less consistent one.
