Dobby Suiting for Uniforms
A subtle woven texture that reads quietly premium up close.
Dobby cloth is woven on a special loom attachment that builds small geometric patterns, fine stripes and textures directly into the fabric rather than printing them on. The detail is structural, so it never washes out, and it reads as quietly premium up close while staying understated from across a room.
We use dobby weaves to lift executive and front-office uniforms above a flat suiting, adding a considered detail that signals a more premium program without any loss of durability.
Because the pattern is woven rather than printed, a dobby survives everything the base cloth survives. Commercial laundering, pressing and daily wear leave the texture untouched, where a printed detail would crack or fade inside a season. Our dobby suitings run in the 205 to 225 GSM band, cut from the same poly-viscose base as our plain suitings, so a program can mix a dobby jacket over a plain trouser without a visible quality step between them.
Dobby earns its place in tiered programs: front-office and client-facing staff in the textured cloth, back-office in the matching plain, both shade-matched from the same dye reference. The tiers read as one identity while the detail quietly marks the roles apart, which is what most corporate and aviation buyers actually want the texture for.

Fine Strip Dobby specification
Our dobby quality is Fine Strip Dobby: a poly-viscose blend at 205 to 225 GSM on a 147 cm (58 inch) width, with a textured, wrinkle-resistant finish. It is held in greys, navy and tonal stripes, including fine pinstripes and bolder contrast stripes on black, navy and charcoal grounds.
That weight sits in the middle of the suiting range, so the cloth works for corporate suits, aviation crew uniforms and formal wear without feeling heavy in warm climates.
Where it is used
Dobby is chosen when a program wants more character than a plain suit without moving to a bold check. Corporate leadership, airline crew and wedding parties are typical buyers. Because the stripe is woven in, the pattern has to be matched on reorder as well as the shade, so we keep the approved stripe and ground colour together on file.
Construction, care and comparison
A dobby loom lifts warp yarns in small repeating sequences, weaving a fine stripe or texture into the cloth itself rather than printing it on. The pattern therefore survives washing and wear for the life of the garment.
Care is the same as for other PV suiting: wash at moderate temperatures and press on a medium iron, from the reverse on dark grounds. Compared with plain-weave suiting, dobby looks more tailored and hides creases better because the texture breaks up the surface. Compared with a yarn-dyed check, a tonal dobby stripe is quieter and reads as formal business wear rather than school or kitchen uniform.
Stock shades ship from 50 m per shade, and custom shades are woven to order from 500 m per shade after lab dip approval. Price is on request.
