Uniform fabric terms: J
The vocabulary that turns up on spec sheets, quotations and tender documents, defined in a line or two. Where a term deserves more than that, it links to the guide that covers it properly.
J
- Jacquard
- A loom mechanism that controls each warp end individually rather than in groups of heald frames, so it can weave large figured designs into the cloth. Compare dobby, which handles only small repeating figures. Read the guide on Jacquard
- Jigger
- A batch dyeing machine in which the fabric runs at full width from one roller to another, back and forth through a shallow trough of dye. It is simple and gentle on the cloth and common for cotton and viscose; each load is one dye lot. Read the guide on Jigger
