Uniform fabric terms: Q
The vocabulary that turns up on spec sheets, quotations and tender documents, defined in a line or two. Where a term deserves more than that, it links to the guide that covers it properly.
Q
- Quality Control Order (QCO)
- A government notification that makes conformity to a named Indian Standard compulsory for a named product, so it cannot be made, imported or sold without BIS certification. A standard existing is not the same as a standard being compulsory. Usually written QCO. Read the guide on Quality Control Order (QCO)
- Quantity tolerance
- The percentage either side of the ordered quantity that a supply agreement accepts as a complete delivery, since woven fabric is not produced to an exact metre. The invoice is normally raised on the measured despatch, not the ordered figure. Read the guide on Quantity tolerance
- Quote validity window
- The period a quoted fabric price is held open for acceptance, stated on the quotation itself. It exists because the mill's own input costs, yarn, dyes and freight, are quoted to it for a limited time, so a validity window is the mill declining to carry a cost risk it cannot hedge rather than a pressure tactic.
