Uniform fabric terms: Z
The vocabulary that turns up on spec sheets, quotations and tender documents, defined in a line or two. Where a term deserves more than that, it links to the guide that covers it properly.

- ZDHC
- Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals, an industry programme that publishes a manufacturing restricted substances list and wastewater guidelines for textile processing. It governs what may be used in the dyehouse rather than what may be present in the finished cloth, which is the distinction from a product-level restricted substances list. Read the guide on ZDHC
- Zone of inhibition
- A qualitative anti-bacterial result, read as the clear ring around a specimen on an inoculated plate. It shows that something is leaching out and cannot be written into a specification as a percentage, so it is not a substitute for a quantitative reduction figure. Read the guide on Zone of inhibition
