Matty Suiting for Uniforms

A firm basket-style weave with a flat, textured face, built for trousers and heavy-wear roles.

Matty Suiting fabric

Matty is a basket-style weave. Instead of one warp yarn crossing one weft yarn, the yarns are grouped and cross as pairs, which gives the cloth a flat, faintly squared texture and a firmer body than a plain weave of the same weight. The name is the trade term buyers hear across Indian uniform markets, and it describes the construction rather than a blend.

That firmness is the reason to specify it. A matty sits flat, keeps its shape through a working shift and holds a pressed trouser line well, so it is chosen for garments that are judged on how structured they look: force and security trousers, institutional workwear and corporate uniforms that want a fuller cloth than a standard plain suiting.

Our matty range runs from 235 to 262 GSM on a 147 cm width, in two directions. Boxer is 100% polyester at 235 GSM, the hardest-wearing build, for field roles where abrasion ends the garment. 2/18 Trouser Line is poly-viscose 70/30 at 235 GSM, made specifically for uniform trousers. Grasima SF-5000 is poly-viscose 65/35 at 262 GSM, the heaviest and fullest handle, for corporate and institutional programs that want a premium feel.

Choose between them by what actually retires the garment. If trousers come back worn through at the seat and knees, Boxer's all-polyester build lasts longest. If they come back intact but tired, the poly-viscose builds give a softer handle and a more presentable finish for the same service life. Matty is woven on our own looms at Village Atoon and dyed at our partnered processing houses in Bhilwara, with stock shades from 50 meters and custom shades woven to order from 500 meters per shade.

Where it is used

End uses include force and security trousers, workwear for plants and sites, and corporate trousers and suits at the heavier Grasima weight. The 235 GSM qualities suit year-round trousers, while 262 GSM suits cooler climates and structured jackets. A matty trouser paired with a plain-weave shirt in the same shade is a common uniform set.

Care and comparison

Matty is a basket weave, with pairs of yarns woven together, which gives the cloth a small, textured grid. The texture hides creases and everyday wear, and the weights we hold make it a trouser and suiting cloth rather than a shirting.

Wash at moderate temperatures and press on a medium iron. Compared with twill, matty has a flatter, grid-like surface instead of a diagonal rib and feels firmer in the hand. Compared with plain weave, it has more body and texture at the same weight. The PV qualities carry viscose for a softer handle than the all-polyester Boxer.

Stock shades ship from 50 m per shade, and custom shades are woven to order from 500 m per shade after lab dip approval. Price is on request.
